Street Dogz Brings Pets and Their People Off the Streets for Christmas Week

For many Las Vegas residents experiencing homelessness, the holidays are not marked by warmth, rest, or celebration. They are marked by colder nights, limited resources, and the ongoing challenge of staying safe while caring for the pets who remain their constant companions. This Christmas week, Street Dogz is once again stepping in to change that reality through its “Off the Streetz” initiative, temporarily moving unhoused individuals and their pets into safe, warm hotel rooms together.

The program ensures that families who would otherwise spend the holidays outdoors can stay indoors with their animals by their side, preserving the bond that often provides stability, protection, and emotional support during extreme hardship. So far, six families have been confirmed for this year’s program, with a goal of supporting ten families total during Christmas week.

What Off The Streetz Provides

Each family room costs approximately $350 for the week and offers far more than shelter alone. Street Dogz provides daily meals, snacks, and a special Christmas dinner for both pets and their people. For participants, this means warmth, safety, consistent food, and a rare opportunity to experience the holidays without the constant stress of survival.

Street Dogz originally launched Off the Streetz to support dogs and cats recovering from spay or neuter surgery, offering temporary indoor care before they returned to life on the streets with their humans. Over time, the program expanded to meet the most dangerous periods of the year, including extreme summer heat, freezing winter nights, and now Christmas week. The mission has remained constant: keep pets and their people together, no matter the circumstances.

Why This Matters in Las Vegas

Southern Nevada continues to face a significant homelessness crisis. Clark County point-in-time counts show thousands of individuals experiencing homelessness on any given night, with many living unsheltered. Outreach organizations consistently report that a large number of unhoused individuals have pets and often avoid traditional shelters that do not allow animals.

For these individuals, pets are family. They offer protection, emotional grounding, and a reason to keep going. Programs like Off the Streetz fill a critical gap by recognizing that reality and providing solutions that do not force people to choose between safety and companionship.

How the Community Can Help

Street Dogz has added a donation option for those who would like to sponsor a room or contribute toward meals and supplies during Christmas week. Supporters can also donate essential items for both pets and their humans, including food, weather protection, comfort items, and daily necessities.

A full, regularly updated list of needed supplies — along with options to donate financially or coordinate drop-offs — is available directly through Street Dogz. Those interested in helping are encouraged to visit their donation page to see where support is most urgently needed.

A Holiday Built on Dignity and Togetherness

Off the Streetz is not simply about temporary housing. It is about dignity, safety, and preserving the bond between pets and their people during one of the most vulnerable times of the year. Because of community support, families who would otherwise spend Christmas outdoors will instead experience warmth, care, and the comfort of being together.

For those looking to make a meaningful local impact this holiday season, supporting Off the Streetz is one way to ensure no one — human or animal — is left out in the cold.
